Kenya: 2013 Presidential election candidates and running mates

The Kenyan general elections were scheduled to be held on the 4th March 2013. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) cleared the following 8 candidates and their running mates to contest the presidency. One candidate, Chris Matata, was not cleared by the Commission for being late. He arrived at the clearing venue past the time set aside by the Commission for the exercise.

Not all political parties participating in the eelctions will be fielding presidential candidates. The main political parties have also formed pre elections coalitions to contest the presidential elections. As may be seen in the table below, one of the eight candidates is a woman (Martha Karua) as is one ot the running mates (Winnie Kinyua).
