Egypt: January/February 2012 Shura Council election results

The election of the Shura Council, the Egyptian upper legislative house, was held in two phases from 29 January 2012 to 22 February 2012.

The Shura Council consisted of 180 elected seats, 180 (two-thirds) by proportional representation from multimember districts and 166 through an individual candidates (IC) system (2 members each from 83 districts). A further 90 seats were appointed by the president following presidential elections in June 2012, bringing the total numer of seats to 270 (IFES 2011, 5).
